Pick& Placer - it works!

lang-en /
It was rather a job to put the Pick & Placer together. Remember the building kit we ordered in Finland? But it has been done and it works!

Gladly so, because we really need it for our project in Nijmegen. Our Energy table will be presented there on June 16. I will explain about the Energy table after June 16. For now it is only necessary to know that we use ‘pucks’ for it. Yes, that name originates in hockey. That is also how they look. In the pucks we build chips, so that the puck can communicate with the computer and camera that are part of the Energy table. Those chips need to be fixed to something, because they are only very tiny metal things.

What we do:

  • First we brush solder onto the circuit board or PCB.
  • Then we put the PCB in the Pick & Placer.
  • The Pick & Placer places the chips on exactly the right spot on the PCB. Considering the chips are only millimeters big, and a lot of them need to fit on one PCB, it is understandable it can hardly be done manually.
  • Finally we put the PCB, with the chips, in the oven. We adjusted the oven as well, to get the right temperature. The heat melts the metal, so the necessary connections are made.
Et voila! The PCB is ready for use!
